Its goal is to bring people together who are passionate about playing string music and to share this love with others. There is a strong desire to improve individual skills as well as nurture the enjoyment of quality music. The All-Volunteer group comes from Aitkin, Crow Wing and Mille Lacs Counties and has grown from a base of 12 players to 50. The concerts have been created to introduce players as well as the audience to the great depth of classical music opportunities. This organization holds two concerts each season, one in the fall and one each spring. One is held in the Crosby, MN area and one in the Aitkin and surrounding area. Whenever possible, Great River Strings interacts with other musical groups in the area to create and perform musical programs. Many similar ensembles have been formed from the original group for weddings, church services, fundraisers and other activities. Informally, the Mississippi Fireflies plays for local farmer’s markets and the Aitkin County Fair. Partnering up with Church organizations for fundraisers and with the Jacques Art Center for an art contest depicting Time that correlated with a recent concert named “Time vs. Eternity” was a huge success and encouraged the communities to join us in our theme. We hope the mighty Mississippi River, which inspired our name, will continue to create currents of energy and excitement in our performances. Great River Strings Ensemble offers opportunities for people to play. We do not discriminate with age! We’ve had players from age 5 to 88! We offer a beginning group and a more advanced group: Ripple River Strings – The beginning orchestra is composed of those players who are just learning to play a stringed instrument for those who feel the need to brush up on their skills. Great River Strings – Composed of players of different skill levels. The music ranges from easy to intermediate levels; challenging music may be included. The organization accepts used instruments for use by anyone who is interested in learning to play and are a part of our organization.Great River Strings is also looking for volunteers to set up for concerts, hand out programs, serve coffee at receptions, grant writing, soliciting concert program ads, fundraising, and contribute financially as we are a non-profit organization.Add a short description of business and services/products.Company LogoAccepted file types: jpg, gif, png, Max. file size: 2 MB.CAPTCHAEmailThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
